Calling all art lovers: the award-winning Cottonwood Art Festival is BACK after two years on May 7-8, and this year it’s more inspiring than ever!

Just one step into the festival and you’ll be immersed in a creative wonderland of diverse artwork and exhibits. Featuring unique, limited-edition works in paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, and photography, there’s a new adventure to come. every street corner.

Since 1969, this free festival has become North Texas’ premier art fair, as more than 200 of the best local, national and international artists converge at Cottonwood Park for a one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery and art festival with jury. interactive activities, delicious food and live music.

Canadian mixed media artist Marjolyn van der Hart has been selected by a panel of judges as the featured artist for this year’s Cottonwood Art Festival!

“For the past two years, the Cottonwood Art Festival has been incredibly supportive of me promoting my work online,” said Marjolyn van der Hart. “I look forward to seeing and thanking the patrons of Cottonwood in person for their generosity in sharing a new body of work that brings them some nostalgia and joy.”

Marjolyn’s art captures the realistic need to normalize the challenges of balancing work and home, a welcome revelation that many can relate to after the unforeseen challenges of the past two years. Her work can be described as provocative, using different mediums to tell the story of perseverance, the challenges of change, perspectives and positive attitudes.

Each artwork depicts captivating scenes full of nostalgia that express how men and women face the world’s demand for perfection. His thoughtful works show that in order to self-regulate, flourish, and maintain tranquility, one must occasionally break away from the bonds of reality, propelling the audience into a headspace of boosted self-esteem and empowerment.

As a featured artist, Marjolyn’s custom artwork is incorporated into new festival poster and merchandise. A recent collection of his originals will be available for purchase at his booth.

In addition to bringing artists from around the world to celebrate their art, the Cottonwood Art Festival also offers students from the Richardson community the opportunity to learn about the importance of art and foster their own blossoming creativity. through two community outreach programs.

The Emerging Artists Program was created to recognize the talent of local high school art students by giving them the privilege to exhibit their work at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in April and sell their work alongside professional and renowned artists. present. Interested students submitted concept art, an artist statement, and images of their work to their professor and a jury to be accepted into the program. Through outreach program sponsor Neighborhood Credit Union, students will also receive scholarships and bursaries.

Cottonwood also partners with Richardson ISD for the Guest Artist Program which increases participation in the visual arts beyond the festival and into the classroom. Cottonwood artists give short presentations that offer hands-on art activities and share their experiences with RISD classes. These tours offer artists the opportunity to give back to a community that has strongly supported the fine arts for five decades, and students the opportunity to meet real artists and learn lessons they will never forget.

On Cupcake Courtyard’s main stage, families can relax on the lawn to watch art artist Amy Burkman paint a live mural and listen to live music from artists such as The Shepherds, Kirk Thurmond and Midnight Soul .
