Over 250 people visited NIFT’s Craft Bazaar 2022 at Kharghar campus

The first day of Craft Bazaar 2022, organized by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai in Kharghar witnessed more than 250 footsteps. The two-day craft bazaar is held at NIFT’s sprawling campus in Kharghar from April 26 to April 27.

Locals from neighboring areas, schools, colleges and NIFT alumni visited the Craft Bazaar held at NIFT Campus Kharghar Navi Mumbai. NIFT believes in supporting the artisan community to celebrate their incredible craftsmanship on a global platform. Apart from the bazaar, the event also held handicraft demonstrations of “Soof Embroidery” by national award-winning artisans Dayaben Dohat and Madhubani Painting, led by Gautam Jha, to raise awareness among the student community and visitors.

NIFT is recognized as a leading institute for fashion education that is constantly evolving to keep abreast of changing market trends. The pioneer institute of fashion education in the country, with the active support of the Ministry of Textiles, the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) and the Office of the Development Commissioner (Crafts) has developed and implemented implements the Craft Cluster Initiative program, which aims to provide students with lifelong learning. exposure to clusters of looms and crafts, thus providing an opportunity for creative innovation and experimentation by reaching out to artisans and artisans at the grassroots level.

The event was coordinated by the Mumbai Campus Handicrafts Cluster Initiative Coordinator – Dr. Kundlata Mishra who organized 19 exhibition stalls of hand weaving and handicrafts from various parts of the ‘India.

Stalls include Dayaben Dohat’s Soof Embroidery, Renowned Artisan Dheeraj Chippa’s Natural Dyeing and Printing, Gautam Jha’s Madhubani Painting, Balkrishna Gavali’s Kolhapuri Chappals, Dilip Bahotha’s Warli Art, Banjara Jewelry of Vijaya Pawara, Dhokra craftsmanship of Rajib Maity, Paithani Saris of Nilesh Pardeshi among others.
