NEWTON, NC — Calling all artists! Registration is officially open for the 2022 Foothills Folk Art Festival in downtown Newton.
The festival’s committee of artists is looking for works that are intensely influenced by the spirit of popular, visionary and marginal art.
The award-winning festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 and is made possible through a partnership between the Downtown Newton Development Association and the Hickory Museum of Art.
Recognized as Special Event of the Year by NC Main Street & Rural Planning Center and Festival of the Year by Hickory Daily Record in 2018, the Foothills Folk Art Festival is described as a juried folk art-themed show .
Officials say artists who have been selected for the postponed October 2021 festival do not need to reapply.
All other artists must go through the jury process, whether or not they have participated in previous years.
To be considered, artists are invited to submit a application form here.
Officials say the application must be accompanied by three to five images of individual pieces of the artist’s work.
These images should represent the type of art the artist plans to sell at the festival.
Artists are also encouraged to submit a photo of their booth if possible.
Officials say a $75 entry fee is also required to apply, and that fee will be refunded if the artist is not accepted into the festival.
Applications should be mailed to the Hickory Museum of Art, Attn: Clarissa Starnes, 243 Third Avenue NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
Applications can also be emailed to [email protected].
Officials ask potential artists to please make checks payable to Foothills Folk Art Festival.
No applications will be accepted via the festival’s Facebook page.
Artists can obtain more information about the festival and an application form from the Hickory Museum of Art by contacting Clarissa Starnes at [email protected] or by calling 828-327-8576, ext. 210.
